Located in Eastern Province of Sri Lanka, the city of #Trincomalee is the main administrative headquarter of the #Trincomalee district. #Trincomalee is famous for its natural #harbor and has been an attractive traveler destination for the location as a peninsula. The history of the #harbor and its significance to both Sri Lanka and the international community is noteworthy. The population of the area mainly consists of the Tamil community. Apart from that, #Trincomalee is another city in Sri Lanka where the tourists are able to witness beautiful combinations of local and foreign construction skills. The constructions like #Koneswaram Temple are high tourist attractions. If you start the journey from Colombo, #Trincomalee is located 237km southeast. #VishmiTravels assures our travelers that you can get a culturally rich and satisfactory travel experience by visiting Trincomalee.

Places To Visit When You Come To Trincomalee

Arisimale Beach

This is situated in the town #Pulmude, 50km North from #Trincomalee. The meaning of the word ‘#arisimale’ is ‘the mountain of rice’ in Tamil. This name has been given to this beach because of the sand of the #beach which you must witness during your journey to Ceylon. Trincomalee is located in a dry zone and the beach also is not so inviting in the afternoon. We recommend that travelers go there either in the morning or in the evening. And, don’t forget to go and see #Arisimale #Raja #Maha #Viharaya which is situated in the vicinity.

Sri Lanka Navy Museum in Trincomalee

This is located closer to Fort Frederick. The museum is also known as Maritime and Naval History #Museum. Opened in 2013, the museum is for the exhibition of Ceylon’s maritime history, marine biodiversity and other related information about the country’s naval history. The museum building is old since it is one built in the Dutch period.

This is a Hindu temple which is believed to have been built in the reign of Cholas in ancient Sri Lanka. This is one of the most sacred Hindu pilgrimage destinations. This is also known as #Thirukonamalai #Konesar #Temple. Travelers will be able to see a big statue which stands majestically at the promontory facing the Indian Ocean. That statue depicts god Shiva, a deity paramount to Hindus around the world. It is not only god Shiva whom you can worship. The road to the promontory has shrine rooms built for worshipping of other Hindu deities like #Bhadrakali, #Ganesh, #Vishnu #Thirumal, #Surya, #Raavana, #AmbalShakti and #Murukan. This is a culturally and religiously beautiful site to see. There are festivals associated with these temples which are kaleidoscopic.

Kanniya Hot Spring

This is a hot spring site with seven wells of hot water. These wells, unlike usual wells you see, take the shape of a square. The wells are not too deep and travelers will be able to see the bottom clearly. The temperature of water in each well varies from each other. The site of the wells is declared an archaeological site by the government of Sri Lanka. The legendary stories of these hot springs are connected with king Raavana. Sri Lankan Tamils utilize this place to observe religious rituals on behalf of their lost loved ones.

Orr’s Hillarmy Museum

Remnants of war are never pleasant scenery, not even the massive weapons used. But, we must not forget the history that deprived thousands of lives during a dark war. Orr’s Hillarmy Museum contains weapons, cars and other armory used by both Sri Lankan army and LTTE soldiers.

Uppuveli Beach

This is situated 2.7km from #Trincomalee. Next to #Nilaweli, this is another eye-catching site that travelers can go and enjoy. The #beach is most suitable and famous for #diving and #snorkeling. The beauty of the beach is enhanced by the white sand in the beach.

Seruvila Mangala Raja Maha Viharaya

This is a traveler destination that no Buddhist skips, if they come to #Trincomalee. This has the #Lalata #Dhatun of #Lord #Buddha. Lalata means relics of the forehead. Made during the reign of King #Kavan #tissa, the place can be reached either via a land route or a sea route. It is up to the travelers to choose their preferred method.

Fort Frederick

The #fort was initially built by the #Portuguese, after destroying the #Koneswaram #temple. After the Dutch invasion, they rebuilt the fort and gave the name Fort Frederick. This place is an ideal destination to see colonial archaeological legacies. You can go on promenades freely.

Marble Beach

#Marble #beach is an ideal place to swim. We recommend travelers to choose a weekday instead of a weekend since weekends are usually crowded. The reason why this is ideal for a bath in sea water is the less waves in the sea. You can enjoy a good time with your entire family here.

Trincomalee Harbor

The sole natural #harbor in Sri Lanka is the #Trincomalee harbor. Since history, the harbor has been an international attention for its strategic importance for trading and naval purposes. This harbor now serves as a major commercial port.
